The pictures that are not marked were collected from a study done by the French Development Research Institute (IRD- link below). 



Note that the fields that are prepared in August-September prior to the rainy season remain fallow that year.  They are fertilized and upturned  this allows for the land to absorb moisture and nutrients prior to the next year’s planting.


Most quinoa fields are on a  3 year rotation schedule.
